Monday:
Safer Communities Through Better Communication

This theme explores how communication shapes safety, trust and early intervention within our communities. It looks at the everyday conversations that take place between residents, officers, housing teams, community organisations and support services, and how small shifts in approach can reduce harm, prevent escalation and strengthen relationships.

The day is designed for anyone working in housing, community safety, neighbourhood management, policing, anti-social behaviour, youth services and local authority roles. It also supports voluntary and commercial organisations who engage directly with the public and want to build safer, more confident interactions.

Tuesday:
Complex Lives & Compassionate
Practice

This theme explores the realities faced by people whose lives involve multiple pressures, vulnerabilities or overlapping support needs. It looks at how compassionate, trauma informed and neurodiversity aware communication can create safety, reduce defensiveness and support better outcomes, even in difficult or emotionally charged situations.

The day is designed for practitioners across housing, health, social care, policing, education, support services and the voluntary sector. It is also highly relevant for commercial organisations whose teams regularly support customers or colleagues navigating mental health challenges, neurodiversity, financial stress or complex personal circumstances, and who want to approach these conversations with confidence and care.

Wednesday:
Better Conversations,
Better Cultures In The Workplace

This theme focuses on how communication shapes workplace culture, leadership and team confidence. It explores the everyday interactions that influence trust, wellbeing, expectations and accountability, and how more intentional conversations can reduce conflict, prevent issues escalating and build healthier working environments. The theme also looks at the role of psychological safety, clarity and consistent communication in helping teams feel supported and able to perform at their best.

This theme is designed for managers, supervisors, team leaders and HR professionals, as well as frontline staff across public services, commercial organisations and the voluntary sector. It is particularly helpful for organisations experiencing change, pressure or complexity.

Thursday:
Communication in Action National
Conference

Thursday is dedicated to the national Communication in Action Conference, the flagship event of Conflict Resolution Week. The day brings together practitioners, leaders and partners from across housing, policing, education, health, commercial organisations and community services to explore how communication shapes outcomes in real situations. Through workshops, discussions and shared learning, the conference offers practical insight into managing conflict, supporting complex lives and strengthening culture, safety and wellbeing across sectors.

The conference is designed for professionals at all levels who want to deepen their understanding of communication in practice, build confidence in handling difficult situations and connect with others committed to improving outcomes. Whether you attend individually or as part of a wider organisational approach, the day provides a focused space to reflect, learn and take away practical ideas that translate into everyday work.

Friday:
Building Confidence in Managing Conflict in Education and Training

Friday focuses on the skills and approaches that support confident conflict management in learning environments. It explores how teachers, trainers and practitioners can respond to conflict in ways that promote safety, understanding and positive behaviour, while modelling constructive communication for learners of all ages.

As part of the day, schools and learning settings are invited to take part in Bring Your Talking Buddy to School Day. Learners bring a teddy or small toy to act as their talking buddy, using it to practise taking turns, expressing feelings, calming strategies and positive conversations. For many children, a talking buddy offers a safe way to explore conflict, reflect on emotions and build confidence in communicating well.

The day is designed for professionals working in schools, colleges, training providers, youth services and wider educational or institutional settings. It also supports organisations delivering in house training or workforce development, where developing confidence in communication is key to effective learning and positive outcomes.

All Week:
Flexible Themes to Suit
Your Organisation & Team Dynamics

Across the week, you can explore any theme that feels most relevant to your organisation. The structure is there to guide you, but there is no requirement to follow each day as set. Whether you want to focus on community safety, compassionate practice, workplace culture or conflict in learning environments, you can choose the topics that best support your teams. The aim is to give you the space, tools and confidence to strengthen communication and conflict practice in a way that truly fits your context.
